Hi everyone:
This is my first adventure at blogging so I’ll try to do my best.
I just got back from JH’s house in the central valley early this morning (2am) to my bay area abode and had a great time talking and going through Jim’s voluminous files of awesome artwork. Much new project material was thrown out at me and to say the least, my head was swimming from the amazing work he’s doing. I think Jim’s fans are going to go ga-ga when they see the new stuff.
Anyway, I helped him piece together the San Diego panel discussion that will focus in on Jim and his artwork that will be lead by Grant Morrison. We scanned in and set up an extremely good representative sample of his work for illustrating to the audience particulars of his technique and thoughts. I’ve got a bit more work to do but I’m sure the end product will really give you all a very good sense of how this genius works. I was really amazed throughout our discussion about how he uses pacing, dynamics and design to elicit an emotional response from the reader that can’t normally be done in a two dimensional media. I really have to change my perspective on how I read comics after yesterday.
On other news: I’ve got Jim’s sketchbook done and we are in the proofing stage. Rico Renzi at Indigoink is doing the printing work on this and I’m sure its going to be awesome. Jim sent me over the cover earlier in the week and I’m still in shock at how gorgeous it is. Take a look and tell me I’m wrong.

In other exciting news, I’m just finishing up Joyce Chin’s sketchbook. This is her second one and the first in over two years. Obviously, I’m really amped up by her artwork and the stuff in this new edition is some of her best work ever. Joyce’s is putting the final touches on the title page but otherwise its about ready to go to print. The first book is all but gone and I think this one is going to do just as well if not better. check it out.

I’m still planning on having Arthur’s done in time for the show. At this point I’m still waiting for front and back covers and the title page. Time is getting short, though. I keep threatening Arthur with putting a Gumby he hates on the title page and one of his crappy prelims as a cover if he doesn’t get something to me soon. I’m going to love seeing his reaction when I publish that one.
Saw Phil Noto at Heroescon in Charlotte. I won’t go into how I feel about that show since I probably will be overwhelmed with death threats. But, what was very cool is Phil’s new sketchbook coming out. Working with Alberto Ruiz Phil is putting out an awesome hardback sketchbook of some of his latest musings. This will be available at the NFR booth in San Diego. Wish I had a scan to show y’all (that’s a little charlotte lingo) but maybe Phil can get around to posting it herein
Also saw Tony Harris there and it appears that he will be coming back to NFR for SD 2008. Oy, so we are going to be expanding again! I think we are going to be an island plot soon if this keeps going. But that’s ok since the best talent in the industry is all going to be in one spot. I’m fairly certain that the group we have now will be back again since everyone has a great time hanging out with each other at the show.
Well, I’ve got a boat load of things to do in the next three weeks besides working on some big deals with my day job at the bank. so, my life is going to get a bit complicated up until the show. So, if anything new comes along I’ll be sure to update y’all (dammit there I go again, how the hell did my grits go cold so fast?).
